Learn a unique monotype printmaking process from guest artist Gregory Folken. He will demonstrate how he creates his monotypes using additive as well as reductive techniques used by famous artists like Edgar Degas.
Printing plates, paper, ink and tools will be provided. It is suggested that you bring a photo or two, converted to black and white, which you would like to use as a reference for your monotype.
Gallery 1001 is pleased to feature the work of guest artist Gregory Folken on display through the month of August. Folken specializes in creating monotypes and paintings.
“As the world around us and within us changes ever more rapidly, the act of looking within ourselves takes an even more important role in our lives. When the work and thinking of others is relied upon for solutions and answers to our own problems, the act of looking within ourselves can become foreign. However, I have found that introspection is crucial to my happiness and psychological health. It is an act that takes effort and practice. My artwork revolves around the theme of introspection. I hope to convey the different aspects of introspection, get the viewer to look within, and gain a better understanding of art’s role in introspection.”
A welcoming reception for Folken will be held at Gallery 1001 Friday, August 1 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. Stop by and meet the artist and be one of the first to see what he has brought to Winfield.
