Gallery 1001 is pleased to feature the work of Zachary Lawrence as a guest artist through the rest of 2014.
Lawrence is an artist and educator in Wellington, KS. He grew up in Winfield, attended college at Kansas State University and Wichita State University, and began creating art in the early-2000s. His initial work was heavily influenced by his contact with members of the Fluxus movement, and by collage and figurative expressionism. He works in mixed media. In addition, his experimental writings have been published in various compilations and journals.
“My visual art is based primarily in experimenting and creating freely, then bringing out the images suggested by the results. Strong contrasts, expressionistic strokes, and layered underpaintings are frequent features of these pieces. I am inspired by insinuating the familiar and perceptible within the context of abstraction. I believe that a successful image draws the viewer in more and more – emotionally and intellectually – every time they see it.”
Members of Gallery 1001 will host a welcoming reception for Zachary Lawrence Friday evening, December 12, 2014 at 5:00 p.m.
