Gallery 1001

An art gallery for Winfield was the brain-child of a few local artists who decided to open in the building, previously Pettit Cleaners, on 8th Street. The building had been remodeled by Maggie and Rich Bicker. They opened Imagine, a place for coffee, books, art, gifts and fun. In 2011 the Imagine building was sold and the gallery closed with the intent of finding another location.

Mike and Ann Fell purchased the “old Higginbottom Grocery” building at 1001 Main that year and began to refurbish it. The original 1882 structure stands at the corner of 10th Street and Main in downtown Winfield, Kansas. It is one of the historic business buildings in this quaint community. In October 2012 the new Gallery 1001 opened. Many of the artists who participated in the first gallery are members of this artist cooperative also.
